Each of the File Buddy rename windows contains a list of items scheduled to be renamed. The list contains three columns: the current name of each item to be renamed, an icon indicating the current renaming status, and the name of each item after applying the current window settings to the original name.
The icons in the status column and what they mean:
- No icon - The the item won’t be renamed because the new name is the same as the old name.
- The Greek letter delta Δ - The new name is different than the current name, but it hasn’t been checked for naming conflicts or other issues.
If the
Check names checkbox below the list of names is checked, File Buddy will test for naming conflicts with existing items and other issues that could prevent items in the list from being renamed. In this case the following additional icons may appear in the status column if the new name is different than the current name:
- A check mark - The item can be renamed.
- A file icon - The item is a file and the window is set to rename folders.
- A folder icon - The item is a folder and the window is set to rename files.
- A caution icon - Another item in the same location has the same name, another in the list is scheduled to be renamed to the same name, or the name is not valid as a file name.
- A CD disk icon - The item resides on a locked volume and cannont be renamed.
Hold the cursor over an icon in the status column to view a help tag explaining the meaning of the icon.
